Augustus raised $180 million in a Series B round this week, reaching a $1 billion valuation as it moves to replace the correspondent banking layer that has long governed how international fintechs access the US dollar system. The round was led by Tiger Global, with participation from Hummingbird, QED Investors, and individual backers including founders of Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel.

The capital follows a conditional approval for a US national bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, granted in May 2026. Augustus is the eighth company to receive such approval since 2010, and one of a small cohort of technology firms authorized to build federally regulated banking infrastructure from the ground up rather than by acquiring an existing institution or operating through a sponsor bank.

The proposition is narrow but structurally significant: international fintechs and banks currently reach the dollar through chains of intermediaries, each adding latency, cost, and operational risk. Augustus is building a single, API-accessible institution that sits at the dollar source rather than several steps removed from it.
