OpenAI has said it needs to be more open about incidents in which its AI systems behave in ways their designers did not intend, and that the industry as a whole has no agreed way to report them. In a statement posted on X, the company said its "misalignment disclosure practices need to expand for this new phase of model capabilities," using the industry's term for AI that acts outside its intended bounds.

OpenAI said the industry does "not yet have a clear standard for how to report misalignment that shows up during training, evaluation, and deployment," and described its statement as the start of a broader change in how it handles such events.
